Armenian theater director, Zhirayer Dadasyan on Fadjr International Theater Festival
Armenian director of the show “Ardaghion”, Zhirayer Dadasyan , believes that art festivals create cultural dialogue between countries.
The Armenian Show “Ardaghion” welcomed Fadjr audiences at the third day of festival.
The director of the play said about its story that it is based on the life of Saint Ardaghion, a historical figure from the 4th century who was a theater actor and known as the first martyr of the stage. In the 4th century, the Roman government had a lot of propaganda against Christianity and tried to propagate against this religion by establishing theater groups.
He went on to say that Ardaghion was an actor in one of these plays who converted to Christianity during the performance. The actor, who was supposed to play the role of Christ, suffered the sufferings of Christ.
Referring to the performance style of this show, Dadasyan said that Pantomime was the traditional style of plays in the 4th century AD in Rome, and Ardaghion also appeared on stage as an actor in this type of play. Our theater group, known as the Yerevan State Theater, is also more active in this field, and we tried to pay homage to Ardaghion.
The director of the show “Ardaghion” stated: “I love Iranian theater and this is my fourth trip to Iran and attending Iranian Festivals. We also host Iranian artists at our festivals. I am the artistic director of the theater festival and I will always remember the two Iranian works performed there.”
He mentioned the importance of attending international festivals and said that he thinks holding theater festivals is one of the most important events that take place in countries. And if the interaction between countries increases, we will see a reduction in tensions and wars. Because in the present era, we need a common understanding of human relations, and art festivals and events can help in this direction.
