Yaqoob Seddigh- Jamali: FITF is the highlight of Iranian theater in 12 months

Iran Theater- Yaqoob Sedigh- Jamali previously staged the show "Satarkhan" in Tabriz city, which was well received. The play will be performed in the special section of the 43rd Fadjr. The director considers the FITF to be an assessment of the past year of Iranian theater and hopes that provincial groups will have more opportunities to watch the works of other troupes during the festival.
Referring to the story of the show, Sedigh- Jamali said: "The play narrates the 11-month siege of Tabriz during the Constitutional Movement. In fact, it showcases the role of Sattarkhan, the national leader, as well as the resistance of the people of Tabriz city at that time."
He explained that "Satar khan" was written based on historical documents, and during writing process, he remained 50 percent faithful to historical facts and 50 percent focused on the dramatic appeal of the work.
The artist added: "The audience is aware of the characters and historical events, and this creates a certain sensitivity towards the performance. It is important for the audience whether the play is based on history or not. But fortunately, "Star Khan" was welcomed by 22,000 spectators for about 20 nights, which shows that our audience in Tabriz has connected with this work. But this play must be seen and criticized to see what kind of feedback it receives from other audiences."
Sedigh- Jamali stated: " The language of the play is Azerbaijani Turkish, but we tried to make the performance not too verbal in order to communicate with non-Turkish audiences. So I strongly emphasized capabilities of the region's folklore, such as music, clothing, etc., and I used the culture and folklore traditions of Azerbaijan."
The 43rd Fadjr International Theater Festival runs January 22 -February 1, 2025.
