An Interview with Rahman Seifi Azad, the Manager of the Film and Theater Department of Channel Four

The Fadjr Theater Festival, a Place for the Exchange of Experiences

The Fadjr theater festival has a prominent place among other festivals and important events of theater; and this is where we can see an intercourse between Iran and other countries of the world.

In his interview with the website of Fadjr Theater Festival, Rahman Seifi Azad, the manger of film and theater department of Channel Four, said:
“This year, in addition to the program “Two Steps Left to the Morning”, like previous years we will have the live program “Theatrical Steps” which will be screened according to the timetable of stage theaters. We have also prepared a program for familiarizing people with the world theater festivals.”
He added: “Channel Four discusses theater all through the year; but as the Fadjr festival is a big and prominent event, we will cover that as a live program. Besides, some Iranian scripts and some stage theaters which are technically capable of being recorded for TV are prepared to be screened on Channel Four. We will also familiarize the audience with how to watch theater and the difference between Medium and Theater.”
About the Fadjr festival, Seifi Azad stated: “the Fadjr festival has a good place among other festivals and theater events, but it still has a long way to go to reach a more appropriate reputation. This festival is where we can see an intercourse between Iran and other countries.”
He referred to the cooperation between the new generation and the experienced generation and said: “the new generation cannot be separated from the old generation because theater is not a spontaneous matter and needs a backup to emerge and grow, and this backup can be provided by the more experienced people. The young generation’s work will be fruitless if these experiences are not transmitted. I highly recommend the younger people to determine their future route considering the experiences of the experts. Of course this does not mean they should quit their boldness and creativity.”
Rahman Seifi Azad went on: “I took part in Fadjr festival for the first time in 1374 (1997) with the theater “The Story of the Singers of this Land”. This festival has improved and experienced so much in comparison to the past when it was only a competitive occasion. In each round it has tried to use the experiences of the past in order to move forward.”
He added: “the Fadjr festival has undergone much change in form and its performing development is related to the capacities of the country. One of the positive events in this festival is using all theater halls of the country which are unused during the year. I hope this planning happens during the year as well to support the performing capacity of the country, because this shows that there is not a lack of theater halls in Iran, but a lack of planning to use the halls.”
Rahman Seifi Azad said in the end: “the Fadjr festival is a place for the exchange of experiences and its competitive aspect gives a more serious motive to theater groups. Unfortunately, the excitement of competition in theater has decreased in the recent years in relation to the past, and I hope this year it will be more productive like the past years and will help the theater industry of the country to move forward.”
