Daniel Brooks Canadian theatre practitioner, teacher and director:

Iranian theatre has the capacity to improve its international attendance

Daniel Brooks, Canadian director who is now working as directing and acting workshop teacher in Iran says; Iranian theatre has strengths and weakness points in producing plays.

Brooks said: sometimes directors are forced to use metaphor in order to put their mean across the audience and audience has to understand it mutually, which is a positive point. But on the other hand, it weakens actor in expressing the dramatic moment on the scene because he is deeply involved with stating that specific metaphor, so he'll ignore the proper expression of the scene.
He mentioned play "Fox Hunting" directed by Iranian director Ali Rafiee and said: I believe that "Fox Hunting" had all the factors for being considered as a perfect dramatic work and there were very good hidden metaphors in it, I think Ali Rafiee is a real artist.
He explained about Bidirectional communication with the audience and said: theatre is not a one-way road and without having a mutual relation with audience, an artist never can improve. This kind of relations can be transmitted through dialogues, audience's reflection and even by their way of sitting on the seat.
Brooks also explained about his workshop and said: I am holding this workshop in two levels of education and technique and also making samples. I am trying to show how much the connection between director and actor can be close.
At the end of his interview, Brooks described the condition of holding this workshop and said: I am very glad that I have come to Iran and I have to say that all the things I have asked for holding this workshop has been prepared till now ,I have been supported all the time here which makes me happy again.
Directing workshop has been kicked off from December 5 and will be ended in
December 12.
