The modern narration of Reza Ghayour from Oedipus the King

The young Iranian director, Reza Ghayour, brings a new and modern version of the tragedy, Oedipus the King written by Sophocles to Fadjr theater festival.
According to public relations of 33rd Fadjr International Theater Festival, Reza Ghayour participates in the new generation section of the festival with the play” Thebes got Talent”. He explains: “Thebes got Talent” is the story of the final part of Oedipus the King in the modern atmosphere. Oedipus’ daughters are now grownups and their blind father is still ruling the country. Therefore he orders to take one eye of all his three daughters and give him those eyes to recover his sight. This new sight is the beginning of this play.
Ghayour talked about his different look on this ancient Greek tragedy and said:
“Oedipus” is one of my favorite classic plays. I’ve always been interested to work on it. I have been thinking if the father had his sight back what will happen. It might be possible for him to see the world more beautiful because of the time he was blind and in darkness. I started to write the beginning scheme and this story was gradually formed. At first the name was” Oedipus, but I changed it to “Thebes got Talent” because the turning point of the story is the time of competitions.
He explains the characteristics of this play and said: accessories are minimal and we also used visual effects. We do not focus on dialogues very much and the emphasis is on the pictures. This play has two parts; when the king is blind there is a silent theme but when he has his sight back, hold some matches, the play has a different theme.
The actors are: Khosro Pesyani, Siavosh Miri, Donya Nasr, Mahsa Tahmasebi, Amir Zamanifard and Elham Ahouyi. Arkido Darsh is the composer and Hosnieh Zahedi is the assistant of director.
33rd Fadjr International Theater Festival wil be held from 1st to 12th Bahman managed by Ardeshir Salehpour.
